When I worked at Chicago Central this was our primary power....we had over 50 GP10s and GP8s.
It’s interesting how many extra steps there are to starting a diesel locomotive than a diesel truck
funny looking steam locomotive
0:56 is awsome K5LA
K5LA Nice catch
Freight trains can be giant monsters
My Grandpa worked for the UP for 35 years, while I'm sure he never drove one of these I'm glad to see a bit of what his job was like.
Damn, that is a nice sound. So satisfying when it starts. I wonder if many, or any, women appreciate it.
I am kinda young for a railfan, but this was my actual birthday. Sorry I’m 11 years late
Thanks! I was trying to fiure out how to start my new train all year!
Definitely dirtier than the ones in the simulators.
What footage is the Clearwater sub
I know that ones in rough shape, but it would be perfect for that operation if they wanted their own steam
Тоже что и у нас
Nagyon jól szól a V12. Gyönyörű hangja van.
Sir agar bhagwan na kare kabhi alco or emd locos ki takar ho jay to jada nuksan kis locomotive ka hoga iska video banakar batana
The sd45s four ale cusin. They SOUND JUST LIKE THE SD45!THEY HAVE 12 CYCLINDER 645E3C PRIME MOVERS IN THEM. THEY TOO ARE VERY RARE LOCOMOTIVES. I WISH I COULD AFFORD TO BUY THEM IN HO SCALE.
Yes, but you didn't open tge test cocks and roll it over first when you pulled the Low Oil button out. If there was any water in the cylinders, to crank it without opening the test-cocks, it would blow a hole in the pistons. Also check the oil on the dipstick and the water level in the sight glass. All that plus confirm the quality of the fuel sight glasses on the opposite side og the governor area than the start switch is. ONLY THEN, HIT START. Assist the crank-up by pressing in the Lay Shaft handle. I've done it thousands of times, to where I could do it in my sleep! THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO. It brought back fond memories!
Sweet sound sweet..
on the up railroad if the engine is cold we are required to open the test cocks and blow the engine out because a cyl might have water
Derail Valley reference irl!!!
if only the autotrain was in Oklahoma
0:10 - setting breakers 0:20 - tutning on control in the local cab and fuel pump 0:35 turning on engine run switch and steering 1:06 turning on the engine
Very cool
A bay window Caboose
You need to crank to start an diesel engine
Me at 3AM
For some reason I thought it was just putting a key in the ignition
Now all I got to do is make it safely to the rail yard unnoticed.
Nice WABCO bell
Great Video!
I like smart start better
what means by "Fuel Prime"
It helps the engine start by already having fuel in it.
Totally rusty
Man. Sure dirty & rough. Not like marine. Still, beautiful sound.
thanks for showing, the fun part is when you push the red handled "lay" shaft, and rev-up the engine. its used on cold engine, its a throdle handle.. keep up the good work.
These are the coolest sounding engines!
These video's are the reason they don't allow me in museums.
pretty cool shoving platform/ caboose
Wow !!
Camera work made me dizzy, but very interesting but couldn't read all the nameplates because the camera moved on too soon.
So you switch some switches and turn a knob...not especially helpful
You better believe I’m gonna go steal a train tomorrow now I know how to start it.!! Could you do a video on driving the train also.?? Please.
okay, this is cool
Love working on this power
No chance of accidentally starting that 🤣
and if the battery is dead just roll it down a hill and pop the clutch
Something that has always struck me as missing is an oil system prime. You have a fuel system prime but nothing to fill the oil galleries before the engine starts.
Boy that's a Raggedy locomotive.
Is there a hot plate in the cab for making some soup?
